Learn Important Skills With Work Study Abroad

There are many opportunities for both high school and especially college students to study overseas. Work study abroad is popular because it combines two things, work and study. Not only does the student learn in a classroom type environment with an instructor, they put their knowledge to use in a particular job. Working in the country where they are studying can help them absorb even more information and get a more complete view of the area. It provides opportunities outside the classroom that can build valuable life experience.

There are a variety of ways you can work during your studies abroad. If you are learning a foreign language so you can teach it, there may be teaching or teaching assistant job opportunities for students. Maybe your goal is to teach English as a second language. This is a job that many students take on while studying in other countries. You could work as a server in a restaurant or even as a child care provider. It all depends on what you want to do and what is best for your situation.

In addition to the opportunity for North American based students to travel overseas for work study, organizations like CIEE help students from other countries come to the United States for work study. It is much like an exchange program, students from foreign countries can learn as much in the United States as students from here can learn in Europe, Asia, Australia or another far off location. The name of the game is diversity. By joining a work study program, you stretch your intellect and your boundaries. After all, you are working with people native to the location you are visiting, and their culture may be very different from yours.

Work study abroad programs are a great way to enhance your university education. They also show great strength of character and initiative when listed on post graduate applications and resumes. Not every student chooses to study abroad, after all it is usually not a requirement. However the ones that do stand above the pack because they have something unique and different to offer. Spending time working and studying overseas changes your perspective, builds maturity and helps you immerse yourself in the subjects you are learning, whether you are studying foreign language, international business or anything in between.
