The Basics Of Study Abroad College Programs

One of the most exciting things about the college experience are university study abroad programs. This means the student leaves their home school to pursue education in a foreign country. There are all kinds of different programs for every type of student. You will find high school programs, semester programs, summer programs, work study programs and so much more. These are ideal for the student who is excited to travel and has the desire to broaden their education and worldview.

A popular type of program many study abroad colleges offer is language immersion. This is an excellent program for students who plan to teach language, or translate. By immersing oneself in the proper location it is easier to soak in the language they are trying to learn because it is everywhere, from the coffee shop to the clothing store. And of course, on the campus. Also by experiencing local culture you learn so much more than just language. Argentina, Spain, Italy, France and Germany are all great destinations for language immersion, of course it depends on which language you are studying.

Architecture is a subject often studied in foreign countries because of the ancient ruins and centuries old buildings that still stand today. International business is another popular subject that can be studied. As the world continues to grow as far as technology is concerned, the global gap shrinks and people from one end of the world can do business with those on the other. If this is a career field you may be considering travel would be a wonderful addition to any application, resume or curriculum vitae. Not only that, but you will remember your time spent in a foreign country for a lifetime. You may even build relationships with people you meet that carry on even after you have returned home.

If you are interested in study abroad college programs, the first step is to do some research and find out the programs your school participates in. Some universities offer more opportunities for foreign study than others. You might also want to research a third party organization like CIEE or CEA that helps students find the right study abroad programs for them. Your university advisor who deals with foreign study programs will be your greatest ally when it comes to applying for, getting financial aid for and embarking on these types of programs.
